Mak Mackie
I want to acknowledge and express gratitude for the opportunity to live, work, and play on the traditional and unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, and Peskotomuhkati peoples (colonially known as New Brunswick). Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being inspire my commitment to creating inclusive and decolonized counselling practices.
A central aspect of my approach is grounded in “parts work.” Many of us think, “A part of me feels this way…” or recognize the experience of internal conflict. Parts work involves creatively exploring, understanding and nurturing the many aspects (parts) of ourselves to facilitate deeper self-understanding and self-acceptance.
The modalities that I pull from in our sessions include:
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Developmental Model for Couples Therapy
My areas of particular interest and specialization include working with clients in the Trans and Non-Binary community and those who are neurodivergent (especially ADHDers and Autistic folx!) These beautiful bodies and minds often find themselves in a world that may not fully appreciate their unique strengths and challenges. Additionally, my heart is deeply connected to helping individuals heal from relational trauma. I am here to listen, support, and guide you through reclaiming your sense of self, rebuilding trust, and fostering healthy connections.
My areas of focus are:
Exploration and celebration of self (identity, sexuality, gender diversity/ transition)
Neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism, 2e, neuroqueering, late discovery/ diagnosis)
Communication skills (consent, boundaries, self-advocacy)
Trauma (including impacts of cis-heteronormativity, attachment wounds)
Anxiety, depression, life transitions
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am also a Canadian Certified Counsellor with The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree with a major and special concentration in Forensic Psychology from St. Francis Xavier University and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I worked in various supporting roles of vulnerable youth and families in social and student services for over six years before finding focus in clinical counselling.
